धरती की कविता कभी मृतपाय नहीं होती। जब सभी पक्षी सूर्य की गर्मी से थके हारे बेहाल से हो जाते हैं और ठंडे पेड़ों में छिप जाते हैं, झाड़ियों के एक झुरमुट से दूसरे झुरमुट तक घास के सूखे ढेरों में से गुजरती एक स्वर लहरी आती होगी। यह टिड्डे की आवाज है-वह अग्रणी होता है। गर्मियों में आराम के क्षणों में भी उसका हर्ष कभी समाप्त नहीं होता बल्कि जब वह मौजमस्ती करते थक जाता है, तब वह किसी सुखद घास-पात के नीचे आराम करने के लिए चला जाता है।
